Who we are
Locaura Limited ("Locaura", "we", "us") is a company registered in England and Wales under company number 17329237, with registered office at 25 Old Clockhouse Green, Challock, TN25 4FQ. We are the data controller for the personal data described in this policy.
If you have any questions about this policy or how we handle your data, contact us at privacy@locaura.co.uk.
What data we collect
Account information. When you create an account, we collect your name and email address, either directly or via Google Sign-In.
Search criteria. When you complete our matching wizard, we collect the preferences you provide: your commute requirements, budget range, property type, school preferences, and lifestyle priorities. This is the core information we use to match you to locations.
Information about people you tell us about. If you use our "connections" feature to tell us about family or friends you'd like to live near, you provide us with their name (or a label like "Mum") and their approximate location. We use this only to improve your own matches. We do not contact these people, and we ask that you only share this information about people who would be comfortable with you doing so.
Your search results and activity. We record which locations were shown to you, which you shortlisted, and any feedback you give us about a specific result.
Communications. If you request an introduction to an estate agent, or contact us directly, we keep a record of that correspondence.
Technical and usage data. We collect standard technical information (such as device type and how far you get through our wizard) to help us understand and improve the service. Where this requires non-essential cookies, we only do so with your consent via our cookie banner.
How we use your data, and our legal basis for doing so
| What we do | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Match you to locations based on your search criteria | Necessary to provide the service you've asked for (performance of a contract) |
| Hold your completed search for manual review before releasing your results | Necessary to provide the service, and to maintain the quality and accuracy of the service (legitimate interest) |
| Email you when your results are ready | Performance of a contract, based on your consent to be contacted at the point you provide your email |
| Improve our matching algorithm using aggregated, anonymised search patterns | Legitimate interest in improving our service |
| Share your name, email, and search criteria with a specific estate agent | Only ever with your explicit, separate consent, given at the point you request an introduction to that specific agent |
| Share aggregated, anonymised demand statistics with estate agent subscribers (e.g. "12 buyers searched this area last month") | Legitimate interest — this data never identifies you individually |
| Send you service-related emails (e.g. your results are ready) | Performance of a contract |
| Send you optional marketing or product updates | Consent, which you can withdraw at any time |
Who we share your data with
We do not sell your personal data. We share it only with:
- Service providers who help us run Locaura — including our database and hosting provider (Supabase), our email delivery provider, and our mapping/location provider (Mapbox), each bound by data processing agreements requiring them to protect your data and use it only for the purposes we specify.
- A specific estate agent, only when you explicitly request an introduction to them. At that point, we'll tell you exactly what will be shared (typically your name, email, budget, and search criteria) and ask you to confirm before we send it.
- Estate agents viewing aggregated area statistics. These statistics are anonymised and cannot be used to identify you individually.
- Regulators or law enforcement, where we are legally required to.
How long we keep your data
- Account and search data: kept while your account is active, and deleted 24 months after your last activity if you don't return, unless you delete your account sooner.
- Wizard completions from users who don't create an account: deleted after 30 days.
- Introduction request records: kept for 12 months after the introduction, to allow us to follow up on outcomes with agents, then deleted.
- Feedback submissions: kept for 12 months to inform product improvements, then anonymised.
- Financial and payment records (agent subscriptions): kept for 6 years, as required by UK tax law (HMRC record-keeping requirements and the Companies Act 2006). This applies regardless of the periods above.
If you're an estate agent using Locaura
This section applies specifically to estate agents and agency staff who create an agent account with us. Everything else in this policy applies to you too, alongside the following.
What we collect from you. When you sign up as an agent, we collect your name, agency name, branch address, phone number, email, and — if you subscribe to a paid plan — your payment details, processed on our behalf by our payment provider (Lemon Squeezy), who never shares your full card details with us directly.
What buyer data you receive, and on what basis.
- Aggregated, anonymised demand statistics — search volumes, budget ranges, lifestyle priorities, and similar data for your coverage area. This is always anonymised and cannot be used to identify an individual buyer. We provide this on the basis of our legitimate interest in offering a useful commercial product, balanced against buyers' privacy — no individual buyer's data is disclosed this way.
- Individual buyer details — name, email, budget, and search criteria — only when a specific buyer explicitly requests an introduction to you, and only after they've given separate, specific consent to that disclosure. We will never send you an individual buyer's details without that buyer's direct consent to share them with you by name.
Your own responsibility once you receive individual buyer data. Once we've shared a buyer's details with you following their introduction request, you become independently responsible for how you handle that data — for example, if you add them to your own CRM, contact them directly, or retain their details for your own records. At that point you are acting as your own data controller for that information, not as a processor on our behalf, and you must handle it in line with your own obligations under UK GDPR. We recommend having your own privacy notice covering how you handle buyer enquiries.
Financial records. As noted above, we retain subscription and payment records for 6 years as required by UK tax law, separately from any other retention periods in this policy.
Your rights
Under UK GDPR, you have the right to:
- Access the personal data we hold about you
- Correct inaccurate data
- Delete your data ("right to erasure") — you can request this at any time via your account settings or by emailing us
- Restrict or object to certain processing
- Receive a copy of your data in a portable format
- Withdraw consent at any time, where we rely on consent
- Complain to the Information Commissioner's Office (ICO) at ico.org.uk if you believe we have not handled your data properly
Children
Locaura is not intended for use by anyone under 18. We do not knowingly collect data from children.

We'll update this page if our practices change, and update the date at the top. Significant changes will be highlighted to registered users.
